Propanol is naturally occurring in fossil fuels and as a fermentation and decomposition product of fruits and vegetables. It is used as a flavoring substance in foods, as a solvent in inks, paint, cosmetics, and pesticides, as a chemical intermediate for the production of esters, amines, and other organic derivatives (U.S. EPA 2005).
