Used primarily in and Industrial / Manufacturing applications, N-Isopropyl-N’-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine is specifically used in antioxidant, and stabilizer.
IPPD is used as an antioxidant and stabilizer and is used to counteract the degradation of rubber (ECHA 2021a, Pharos 2021). It is manufactured by the reaction of p-chloronitrobenzene with aniline to yield pnitrodiphenylamine, which is reductively alkylated with acetone over a nickel/chromium catalyst (HSDB 2007). As IPPD is well known as a severe allergen, its use is usually avoided in non-industrial applications (UNEP 2002).
